Permanent make-up, aesthetic dermopigmentation, micropigmentation, contour make-up – all these are ways of facial and body decoration, a solution to many problems, as well as self-confidence.

These are but the external aspects of the question, but in fact it is the mechanical application of a special pigment into the skin with one or more needles.

What does “mechanical application” mean? Strength is required to make the needle penetrate the skin barrier. This strength can be produced by a human hand or a motor built into a special device (which, in turn, is controlled by hand).

The first experiments in dermopigmentation were carried out with various piercing and cutting devices; primitive drawings were applied manually. In some Asian countries, bamboo sticks and attached needles are still used to draw tattoos.

Devices for introducing color into the skin have gone from simple mechanical machines to high-tech devices. At the end on the 20th century, the manual method of applying pigment to eyebrows, eyelids and lips appeared again. Induction machines where electric coils create a magnetic field and thereby attract the head with the needle are mainly used in tattoo art. They are more powerful and correspond to the quality-price value for this procedure. They are rarely used in permanent make-up due to their heavy weight and vibration, which is not convenient for female cosmetologists. In addition, the needle makes popping perforations in the skin, thus increasing trauma of delicate facial areas.

However, the induction method has its fans.

Today, most devices have rotary motors. They fully comply with professional requirements: stylish design, light in weight, powerful, precise and smooth operational, flexible, versatile, functions with a large range of needles, strong materials, hygienic and safe.

Modern manufacturers need to take into account a large number of internal and external parameters. All of them are controlled by high precision measuring instruments.

When choosing a device, specialists actually consider the whole system, in which the following parts play an important role: transformer + console (panel), the actual device (handpiece) and needle system, as well as their assistants – connecting cords, the pedal, support stand for the handpiece, etc., and all manufacturers produce their own kits.

The console (panel) serves as the main operating unit when the specialist presses the buttons or turns the handle so as to adjust the speed of the needle, switch the current from one handpiece to another (if this is conceived by the manufacturer), and regulate the operation, either manually or with the pedal.

The “smart console” is the latest technological innovation, regulating the power of the machine according to the needle and skin puncture resistance. Today, the specialist can operate much more easily and quickly to perform the most complicated work.

Devices often are made from aluminum or plastic. This is a reason of their light weight. Designers have come up with different shapes for handpieces to make operations easier and give them a stylish appearance.

The most important element in the machine is motor; it drives the needle. The push movement depends on its strength, the force with which the needle will pierce the skin. The characteristics of the motor affect the needles operated by a specific machine. The more powerful the machine, the more easily the needle cluster can puncture the skin.
